Experiencing the Process of Making

Clay workshop with Joey Sheehan

The depth and ranges of what clay can do and become are as endless as the waters pouring through the rivers of our beloved mountains.  With a flick of the wrist a humble coil becomes a handle, and with a splash of water a hard block becomes a malleable possibility.  A supple slab becomes your serving tray and with a simple turning of the wheel a hump becomes a diligent vase for those early spring flowers.  Its simple, its easy, its quick… right?  Ha, we wish!

In this class we will deeply explore the process of making functional pots.  How do we get from that ball of clay to the imagined perfect pasta bowl?  We will discuss and delve into the process of taking an idea to the tangible final product by discovering the proper steps from design through execution.  Through of a process of discussions, demonstrations and making both on and off the wheel, we will turn ideas into real pots!
